well im lookin into gettin a a used bmw...i like the specs on a 94 325is...i might as well tell everyone now,i like to goto the track when i get a chance and do a little racing,so going fast is my thing...i read a 94 325 runs 15.5 in the quarter...not bad for stock...but is that coupe or sedan and auto or manual? i checked specs for coupe and sedan and they were the same 3100 lbs,190 hp...also i was wondering is a 92 the same body style and same specs as a 94? im looking between 92-94 because thats what i WANT to afford...please let me know whats up!
I think my 92 is great for track driving. I don't have the vanos so the low end torque leaves something to be desiried but you just keep the revs above 3k and you're got plenty. Also larger valves. And potential to go to M3 specs if you rebuild.

For a track car, a 92 is what you want because it is non vanos and can be bored out to almost 3.0L. The downside to that is the early e36s suffer from weak rear subframes. Tracking the car will expedite the subframes's failure. The 92 is also more desirable because of slight suspension differences in the sway bar mounts.
A 94 is also a good choice because it will have less miles and won't suffer premature subframe failure.

what is vanos? i know nothing about bmw's but will like 2 learn...i think i read stock 94 is 15.5 n stock 92 is 15.9.....id like to start out with the faster car...i probably wont do 2 much to it...intake,full exhaust,...then maybe start savin for a supercharger or turbo...
again, any serious engine work you do, esspecially if yu go FI, may require a rebuild When rebuilding, the 92 can be bored out and give you tons more power over the 94.
VANOS is BMWs variable valve system.

i dont have one yet, lookin into them to see which one i want first...i dont plan on do a whole lot of work to it....intake,full exhasut, chip, supercharge maybe...whats the difference between 325i and is?
A '92 would be better for a super or turbocharger because of the larger valves and non vanos as vanos can have some complications with the forced induction.
If you're going to have FI put on it, you'll probably need to have the engine rebuilt anyways. For the 95 M3 they actually stole the block from the 92 325i and bored it to 2995ccs. I think they just gave it different cams and tada! M3 engine. The exaust cam gets swapped to the intake and then you buy an M3 exaust cam. Bam you're all set. I plan on doing this some time in the future. Probably more like 4 or 5 years from now :P
