92 325i Suspension Quiz

Some of you know I am looking for new shocks and springs for the '92 325i.

Applications are for before / after a June '92 build date.



I am thinking there was an early design or geometry change during the first year of E36s. Anyone know if this is true?

Can you tell from the VIN when the car was built, or is the build date listed somewhere else on the car?

I have never heard of a geometry change.... and I've done a good amount of work on the early e36s...

What parts... are you speaking of?...

And why do you need to know?... if you order replacement parts... they will match.. if you order aftermarket parts... search around form known tuners... and you will find stuff that matches your year and make.

As I mentioned the shocks and springs are listed before or after 06/92.

I will not go near the local Dealer; BMW Calgary Crusaders.

From what I hear, just the two rear OEM BOGE Shocks cost over $300 US uninstalled from the Dealer's Service Shop; going aftermarket sounds less expensive for way better product.

I also do not own any BMW or Bentley Service Manuals so I'm SOL there too.



But hey, if I knew the answers to your questions, I wouldn't be asking...

Not a geometry change, a mounting change. That's why if you buy bilstein coilovers you're going to need to get a kit to update the suspension to accept the coilover design.

So, to answer your original question, to find your manufacture date, open your driver's side door and look in the door jam. If you're seated in the car, it's directly to the left of your lower back on the middle pillar between the front and rear door.
