I'm looking into buying a 92' 318i and i'd like to know the ups and downs for it before i actually buy it.

The price is about 10k USD (Cars are more expensive in Malaysia).

Sorry for the double post.
and also, whats the power and handling like for a car like this. I know it isnt much, but i cant find good value's for the HP and torque, is it the M43 engine?

ups - good gas mileage, good handling and braking, bmw engineering

downs - very slow

A 92, 318i is worth about 2000 US.

+1... you can fund an m3 here for that kind of money if u looked hard enough! surely its not THAT much??? but yeah like ivan said... overall handleing, braking, everything is great... i mean its a bmw, what do u expect?? the only down side is it doesnt have much go as it is only a 4 banger...

anyways, the 318 is awesome, handles really really well and the gas milage is great, and since the damn engine is so small, diy are ALOT easier, e.g, the ICV on the 318 is real easy to get out and clean, but seems for a bitch to get to on my 325 now...overall, its a good cars, and its not as slow as they make it out to be

cars are expensive here coz of the tax the govt imposes. a brand new 320i 06' model cost around 92000 USD XD.

I know the price in Malaysia is ridiculous. Over here, BMWs here are over priced too. But in Malaysia, most BMW units are CKD and they still selling the price of CBU units.

So how much is the 318i in RM? Early E36 models, I would look out for rust at the engine hood. Please be aware that they are not cheap to maintain but in Malaysia they are a lot of cheap used spare parts and I think it won’t be a problem for you. They are so many half-cut E36 body in Malaysia which is sad to see. :lol:

average prices of 318i are about RM35,000 to RM70,000 depending on year.
to covert that to USD just devie it by 3.8

Depending on year, it could be M42, M43 or M44. I reccommend the M44. It has oil squirters for the pistons. I just think that's so cool.

i think buying a newer E36 would be better then a 92' model, so i'll looking and have to wait until my exams are over before dad would buy me a car.
