I would like to refill my A/C but apparently the only kit that can be sold to the public here in Canada is a R12a kit which claims to be a compatible replacement for R12 and R124a.

Has anyone used or know if there is a downside to switching to this refrigerant?

from my understanding they can no longer produce r12. the only way that they can get it is to recover it from refridgeration products. plus r12 has gotten so expesive that it is almost the same price to retofit to 134a. plus the 134a is way cheaper to recharge in the future. i think r12 is $60+ per lb. and 134a is around $15per lb. and yes r12 is really really bad the enviro. it contains cfc's- atmosphere eater.
