Hi, I have a 98 323is with 70K miles on it in excellent condition. I am not that handy with engines and such so I came here for some guidance. The weather here in Chicago has been in the 20's lately and in the morning or after several hours when I start the car it sounds as though it is strugling a bit. It always starts but I am not always as confident it will as I am when the weather is warmer. My question is, what can I do to have a stronger start? is it the battery or the starter or do I need a tune up? THANK YOU

Welcome to winter..the battery will certainly always lag a bit more when it's cold out. If you think it's barely tunring over and is close to not starting then I would replace the battery. Do you find that your car kind of shakes a bit more sometimes when she's cold? As far as I know and by my experiences this is a common cold start.. That should cease after a few minutes.. And a tune-up is always a good idea

Well, I just went to go get a car wash and the guys kept messing up the alarm on it and then the car died. We jumped it and it started fine, my guess is the battery is going soon.

Its hard to wash your own car when you live in a condo without a hose and the weather is 20 outside.

Go to a DIY car wash....I hear ya on the CONDO thing...but its 20 here in new england and I changed my oil and detailed both my car and my wife's jeep last weekend...

My only point is these are the kinds of things that happen when you let the funny little car wash thugs play with your car....
