325i keeps stalling - urgent help needed - BMW Forum

Hi Guys, need a little urgent help.

I changed my catalytic converter today, it was from an identical car of the same year, that being a 1992 325i (e36)

The new cat had 39k on it.

I replaced it this afternoon and ever since then the car has been idling irratically and stalling at random points, the car revs up to about 4k rpm then goes down to about 500 then levels out and then just dies!. the one thing i didn't change was the o2 sensor, could this be the problem??

Really have no idea what could be wrong with it, please help.

How did the cat run on the identical car? Could be a bad cat.

Im not sure how the cat ran, the guy who i bought it from said it was fine... could it be the o2 sensor? or wouldn't this cause the problem?

Does the check engine light come on?

It could be in limp mode from having a bad 02 sensor/

Problem is now sorted, was in fact the o2 sensor, thanks for the replies

I have a 2006 325i E90 69,000 kms and have owned it for 3 days. last night it stalled on me over a 15min journey from start to finish. It would idle well below 1000 then car would shake and engine would stop. The yellow light exhaust emissions was off, but this was on for the last 2 days. I will see mechanic in next few days and let you know outcome.
