325i Dies In Reverse Sometimes

Hello I'm a new member this is my first post. I just bought a 94 325i with 125,000 miles on it. I noticed that a couple times I have been stopped at a light and the engine will rev a little on it's own. That doesn't bother me that much. But twice now I have been backing up and the car has just died. It has started right back up again though. This is the only major problem I think it has. I have replaced the air filter with a K&N and I have bought some Silverstars. I need to take it and get the 120,000 mile inspection though. Other than that it's a great car.

thats very odd... what gearbox do you have? i assume manual. does it die during throttle or when coasting?

It's a automatic. The only time it dies is in reverse, and it doesn't do it everytime.

I had to change my auto gearbox very soon after getting my 320 as my old gearbox died on me. It was doing this sort of thing.

Well, by dying i suppose your engine stalls. Mine was stalling when it had to shift from 2nd to 1st quickly. Say when i ad to stop at a traffic light and i was a bit harsh on the brakes. It would not do down to 1st but just stick to 2nd and eventually stall. Sometimes it died just as i put it in D or R.
I'd tell you to get your gearbox checked out maybe but as i learned from experience it is rather expensive, so it;'s your decision
