325i blowing smoke in morning when i leave home?

I have noticed that when I leave to go to work in the morning, when I remember to look in my rearview, when I take off from in front of my house, there is a big cloud of white/grey smoke when I leave, then after about 15-20 feet, it is gone... no more...Can someone tell me what is wrong and what needs to be done to fix it?

Sounds normal to me. When your BMW idles and the engine is cold, it automatically runs rich. If you just floor it leaving your house you're pretty much just blowing all the carbon deposites out. After you drive the car for a while if it's gone, it just means you're fuel mixture isn't rich anymore which is perfectly normal.

If you punch the throttle hard while you drive and hit higher RPM's then see "Blue" smoke fly out your exhaust pipe, then your compression has gone to hell, you're burning oil. Otherwise, perfectly normal. What's the weather like there, cold? Also, I leave my car on idle for 30 seconds - 1 min max before driving at normal RPM's 2500RPM max before it reaches normal driving temps. It's pointless to leave the engine on idle for so long. You just waste gas and clog up engine components with carbon deposites.

Thanks for the help! It was around 35 degrees this morning, and it seems to only do it in the morning which would make sense because it is cold and the engine hasn't ran in more than 6-8 hours.

Yea, what Autotechnica said is right. It's normal. Nothing to worry about.
