Question 323is Odometer Problem - Question

Has anyone ever seen this problem on their odometer? This is on a 1999 323is E36 coupe. It is intermitent. Sometimes the odometer shows correctly and a few seconds later - it shows only the top half of the odometer.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Could it be an odometer battery? Loose connection?

Thanks for your help. I am new to the forum and enjoy what I see so far.

See attachments for the pics.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone have any ideas? Would I need to replace the entire instrument panel, or is it controlled with a separate component?

Anyone . . . anyone . . . ?

Thanks,

I had the same thing happen to my E36, but living in AZ it's whole life fried the cluster and I had to replace it.
