323i OEM Alarm

I just bought a 1998 323i Sedan. The dealer only gave me one transmitter. I only have a key, my wife has the transmitter and a key. My key doesn't work unless I put my wifes key in first, turn on the car and then remove the key. Only then does the car turn on with my key. If I take my key out of the ignition, lock the car, open it back up, I can't turn on the car. HELP!

I think i just replied to your other post. I forgot to add that the E36 wasnt originally designed to have remote locking. The keyfob is the BMW add on that comes when the car is manufactured. I think its a Cat1 alarm in most cases. The key set you are given is typically for one user.

1 Master key (Black)- with the yellow light and immobiliser circuitry.
1 Grey key with no light
1 Black key with no light
1 flat black key (all plastic) for fitting in a wallet or something.
1 key fob (corner appears chopped off) with one grey and one red button.

am i right?
