I have recently bought an excellent low mileage 1993 320i SE Saloon with manual transmission. The car is ok and I am quite happy with its 150BHP, I was just wondering are there anyways to get decent power gains out of this engine? Without ripping it to pieces? Eg, induction kit, exhaust etc, maybe an engine chip and what type of power gains could be expected? Thanks for your help

you've already got the right idea...Chip, intake, and exhaust are probably the three easiest things to do. Also, to go on top of the engine mods, BMWs are made to handle. Throw on some sport springs, some Bilstien struts or similar, some sway/strut bars, and you will be SHREDDING turns even more so than you can now.

With a Chip, intake and exhaust, you might be able to gain a good 20-30hp and 20-30lbs of tq (give or take)...I just don't know the availability of a chip for the 320 engines...thats where you will have to do some research...goodluck!

My car already has M-Tech suspension so it handles pretty good anway, when you mention about the exhaust system does that include a de-cat pipe? I haven't a clue about chips for the 320 I will have to search the internet as I live in the UK. I still wanted to keep the car fairly civilised so will have to try and find a quiet aftermarket exhaust! Thanks again

M-tech suspension is definitely a good thing...most exhausts are Cat-Back exhausts. Deleting the cat will provide some added HP gains, but most places, its not legal. Also, it takes some welding work to remove the cat where as most of the exhaust systems are just bolt ons. I don't know about those laws in England. Most aftermarket exhausts for Bimmers also provide a deep throaty sound when accelerating, but remain pretty quiet when just crusing at speed. So staying civilized is definitely not a problem. Headers and new pulleys are definitely not a bad thing either.
