320i engine sizes?

hello i was wondering if anyone knows when bmw offered 2 engine choices for the 320i as i know they were mostly 2 liters, but notice there are some 3 liter 320i's out there and cant find much info about this online for some reason, how much hp would the 3 liter put out, and is it the same as a 330i engine?

All depends if you are talking E36 or not.

The E36 320i in most forms is the undersquare 2litre six. This changed slightly when the M52 motor came out with a slight change in cc's and different tuning, mainly for economy and emissions.

The post E36 range have a 4 cylinder model as well.

You can mod a 2litre to 3 litres.. eeek the stresses on the block.. by putting in a stroker kit. This increases the piston travel by changing the connecting rods and crankshaft.

The main difference between the 2litre and the 2.5 (apart from niggly little things not worth mentioning) is that they increased the piston travel to create a more square design with piston width being almost the same as the distance. This obviously creates alot more torque.

The 2.0 as around 86mm width on piston, and only around 60 odd in stroke. This is designed more for revs than torque. The bigger motors have pretty similar width to stroke sizes creating much more torque while retaining rev capacity.

If anyone knows of a 320i with a 3litre from factory.. please correct me.
