318ti issues

So I recentely got a 318ti and I do like it and everything but after a week I had to replace the starter and 2 more weeks after I believe the headgasket blew. If someone could lead me to a DIY it would really help. I feel like I bought a total lemon and I'm trying to get it in a working state before I get fed up with it. The car is a 1998 with a MK44 engine in it but it has 160K miles.

Welcome to Bimmerwerkz.

On a car of this age its not uncommon for the starter motor to wear out. I have a 98 E36 as well and it has had a few issues in its day as the age creeps up.

A headgasket only blows when the engine is overheated. Did you notice the temp guage climbin up into the red? Its fixable, but will take about 10 hours to fix depending on your skill level.
