318ti Gas Gauge Broke

I recently purchased a 1996 318TI and the gas gauge seems to be broken. When I turn the car on it initalizes but then drops all the way to the left and gives me the gas light warning. And no when it initalizes it dosen't tell me how much gas I have it just jumps all the way to the right then back down to the left. I've never realized how important/annoying it is to not know for sure how much gas you have! Does anyone have any advice on what to do before I just go buy a schematic manual for 3 series and probe around forever.

Could be the sending switch, which I believe is in the gas tank.

I have a TI as well but never had the problem till ya have it fixed figure out your milage and watch um

that's what i've been doing it's frustrating though! i don't see many of these 318ti's on the road anymore, is that a good thing or a bad thing? can you give me any info on things i should be aware about with this car as far as things that go bad early?

It's a good thing to not have as many it makes um rare and unique,
I've had mine almost 6 months now and havn't had a problem yet so I don't really know the gliches of the car b/c I havn't had any :wink
