"ti" denotes that it's a fuel-injected hatchback - lower case t for hatchback, i for fuel injection.

you could also say that it was brought back as a reference back to the 2002ti/tii

yea, theres alot of ppl out there that dont like the look of the ti's, however i love it.

i was debating between an E36 coupe, a Z3, or a TI, i went with the TI that i had wanted for years because its the lightest and least common of the 3 styles (and i like to be different) thrown in a 3.2L and i got a sleeper and a half.

i think the ti means twincam injection. as the compact 318ti has same engine as the 318is ... being different from normal compact, saloon and coupe 318i (single overhead cam)
