318is m42 running too rich

So I've been having the problem for a while where my car has been running really rich.
•I've looked at the plugs, they're all wet whenever i pulled them and smell like gas.
•The exhaust smells like gas. Its pretty strong and whenever i put my hand in front of the tailpipe, it gets wet, dirty and smells like gas.
•Im averaging about 20mpg.
•It misfires at an idle.
•When i start it cold. It revs up to 2000rpm, then lowers down to 1500rpm when its warm and just stays there.
•I've replaced the o2 sensor, cleaned the icv, maf, replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the coil packs.
•Checked the DME (computer) because I've got a spare that i know works fine and that changed nothing.
Whenever im driving around, the check engine light would come on and off.
and i dont really know how to check for codes since its an obd1 other than the stomp method. which doesnt work very well when the engine is running... So now im stuck. What should i look at? Plug wires? I mean really ANY insight would help im just getting a little frustrated now...

Have you seen TCarlisle's reply in "engine runs rough when cold start!" thread?

Might give you another direction to look into.

Cheers
