I have recently bought a bmw, I used to have a 92 318i, pretty standard except for wheels and exhaust. Anyway my new BMW that i got is a 95 318is "M"? Well that is what is says in the orignal books.
I will post some photos soon but i am intrigued to know what the M intales and wether in fact this was a factory option? And are they rare if so...I live in Australia and have not seen too many..This car is not a M3 as its still got the 1.8l motor..
I have heard of some cars with an M package. It has M skirts and bumpers on it and trim. It doesn't have anything different in the engine, but I don't know if the M package changes anything suspension wise. There are a couple of people with the M package on here. Gomerino has a M package 3 series I believe and Teg too i think. Ask them they could tell you more.
Thanks guys. It does have the M body kit and trim on it, I just want to know what else it may have. The wheels are 10 spoke 17' tsw's? I will have to take some pics and post them. Any more help would be grateful!
Hey Browny, Welcome to the Forums.... In the US, there were only 2 different occurrences of the "M-like" E36 models (that I'm aware of)... jshearer said, there was a package with the 318ti s, giving them the M body kit... the second occurrence was not really a package per se, but in 1994 BMW built 150 325is "M-Technics", with not only the body kit, but many unique features as well.
As far as the rest of the world goes.... I don't really have a clue.... I think there have been similar models released in Europe, and probably in Australia then..... Many BMW enthusiasts here do not know much, if anything, about the models released here... the info is kind of hard to come by.... but post some pics anyways, it might help clear up some things..

Regarding non-US markets:
We mainly got the 323ti with the m-body kit. (including M3 side mirrors)
But I think it could be ordered for all E36 models, I've seen in factory mounted on just about any model. Including the touring models. However they didn't get the M3 mirrors.
Thanks guys. My car is defintly a 318is and has the M-Technic gear inc. interior on it. I will take some pics and post them very shortly! I dont think we have the models you were talking about in Aus either..
america never got the E36 ti hatch's with anything other than the "18" engine. the rest of the world got the 318 and 323 but we were stuck with the 318 alone. which is just as well; the thing bombed. i have seen though... an actual "M3ti." started with the ti body and chasis threw on all m3 suspension and motor pieces. pretty quick considering the weight savings.
