318i touring loose control of wheels when hard braking - BMW Forum

hi all new to your site and have a new bm 1996 december touring 318i

i know the abs light is on and previous mechanic said he changed the abs cable to front wheels BUT when i brake a little sharper i loose control of the wheels and my steering is light!!!

seems like i loose control of the car, does anyone know if it could be the abs pump or abd relay or abs ecu??

I'm confused by this fault

it did pass an mot tough

I have the ABS light constantly on but the transport manager i bought the bm from said he has not reset the light he changed the abs sensor cable when he put new front pads in the car

So yes just ABS sensor ON

so could be ABS ECU or pump? or something else how do i isolate this down?

The ABS light would have gone out once a new sensor was fitted, I wonder if he changed the ABS sensor or just the low pad sensor?, So if you brake really hard the ABS doesnt cut in, now this can be down to the pump or the module and even a faulty sensor, there's to many things it can be to go out spending money on parts and finding the problem is still there, what I would do is have a diagnostic done this will show what the problem is, then it will be easier for us to help you out once we know exactly what the problem is.

From reading what your transport manager has said I bet he changed the low pad sensor and not the ABS sensor.

I'm going to get a garage to plug their computer onto the odb2 plug and check the codes

pity i can't buy some cheap software myself and check - I know with vw's I have I have used VAGCOM but for BMw's will need other software

Carsoft V6.5 is the one for bmw's, but you need the leads, which can be found on ebay sometimes as they are getting rare due to Carsoft International invoking their copyright also you need a lappy with an RS232 rear port or PCIAMA to RS232 adaptor, if you do manage to get hold of them I have the software.....

I will get onto that now.

I work in it support for the last 20 years and sure my dell docking station may have an rs232 - i'll try to get the right lead with odb2 on 1 end and rs232 on the other - then i'll send you my email
