Hi guys I' your buddy from quebec city CA this is the first time I post here... this website looks great and professionnal! Hope I'll have fun here
I just bought a 94 bmw 318i last month and I have some questions.... If you guys can help me out that'd be great!
I had an accident with my Ford mustang last year so body = crap and I sent the engine to the operation table. Now I just got my 302 done totally rebuilt and I wonder if i can put it into my bmw 94 instead of another old Ford frame...
I know this sounds weird and maybe impossible but I'd like to know your opinion. I wonder if 3-serie 4 cylinders have the same frame as the 3,5,7 series (6 and 8 cylinders). I know engine support woudn't fit, but if I'm not restricted with the space everything is possible. Actually the 302 has carburator so I'll get rid of most of the electronic. I also wonder wich differential would support these hp.
thanx!
btw I'm french trying his best with his englsh
I'll sum it up real simple for you: With enough money, anything can be done. I've seen V12 BMW Engines put into a 318ti, the bastard BMW car :P I've seen LS1s put into e30 BMWs. With enough money, anything can be done.

I wouldn't think that the diff would work too well with those HP numbers. You would want a stronger diff.
a friend of mine put a 350 into his mercedez benz but had to cut off the entire frame in the front and build his own. I know with money i can do everything but i wonder if it is possible to fit it without modifying the frame. Other friend of mine put his 351w into his odl rx7. Front chassis is big enough so they can welcome any engine you want.
But 302 -> 318i... do someone think it's big enough to fit a 302 with getting rid of most of the electronic?
I can think of a couple problems you might run into.
The oil pan may not clear the k-member, but a 68 style pan might. If I'm thining about where the motor would sit.
The 302 isn't that wide. I've thought about putting one in my 525, and that would definately work. You may need to fabricate some engine mounts, but it wouldn't be that bad.
I would put the transmission in with it, and I'd recommend an m3 rear end, or channel a ford 8.8 to fit.
It would be easiest to run a carburetor on that, but I'm sure the EFI stuff would fit where the DME goes. You tach will also be out of phase, but you should probably do custom guages anyway.
If you do go this route, keep us posted. It will turn out sweet if you take your time.

i agree, im my opinion, mustangs and bimmers don't mix, but if you do swap hope everything works out well! you'll have to post plenty of pics of the engine bay for us, maybe even as you swap, lol
Think about it. They say that mustangs are drag cars and do very well in a straight line, while BMW's are made for excellent handling. This swap will give him the best of both worlds.

I love scotch. Scotch scotch scotch.
I like. If I had the extra cash laying around.. However, I am kinda partial to keeping Bimmers ALL BMW, you know? Now, other cars? Engine swap to your delight. Just my $.02.
