I believe for the most part they are as long as its the same body style as in exterior parts from a e36 coupe will fit on other e36 coupes...the same applies to e36 sedans. Basic parts of the engine can be swapped as well if needed. But for the most part the answer should be yes.

The E36 318i sedan used the M42 and M44 engines. You have to cross reference the part number to ensure that it is compatible with the other engine. See below.

You can swap the springs from an M50/52 engined E36 into a 318i. However you cant swap 318i springs into an M50/52 car as the ride handling will suffer. The M5X was a much heavier motor then the M4X motors and thus the springs were quite a bit stiffer to compensate for the additional wieght.

As for interior and exterior parts, they are all compatible between sedans. If you are ever unsure then take the part number and type it into BMWfans.info and it will give you a list of all models that had that part.

ok so your telling me that i couldn't put 318i springs on a car with a m50 engine, but i can get springs from a e36 sedan with a m50 as well as a engine swap with not too much trouble with my 318i ?

You SHOULDNT put the springs from a 318 into a 325 or 328i. The ride handling will suffer considerably becuase their two different spring rates. Its fine to go from 325i springs into a 318.

If your looking to do an engine swap, either M50, or M52 will drop in fine. And when you do the swap you should upgrade your springs because the M5x engine is quite a bit heavier.

Check the part numbers. If they match between the part diagrams then they are identical and will fit.
