318I overheated - HELP

I have a 1997 318I, temperature gauge was in High, in the middle of the freeway, I pulled over to the right and steam came out. Took it to nearest autoshop, they checked the ratiator hose and it was fine but when the guy poured water in the radiator, it was coming out in buckets like behind the engine. He said it may be a housing that might be located behind the engine, he looked underneath and he couldn't have access to it. Does anybody know what it could be????


You can start the engine without a problem. PLEASE HELP

Well... you have a drain plug on the right side of the block... right underneath the exhaust manifold..... Maybe your plug got lose and fell out.... if you jack up the car.. and look up at where your header attaches to you block... you will see a 6 sided head of a screw... its the only one there... so its obvious... and its the drain plug for your block... for the cooling system.
