With 93 octane full in my tank I drove 309 miles straight highway from NYC to Montauk LI and back before my orange indicator came on and I refilled like 15.4 gallons before it topped off!
In the city, driving daily between Brooklyn/Queens and Manahttan/New Jersey I go about two weeks or 246 miles before my full tank goes to the orange indicator and then I usually fill it up to 14.6 gallon everytime to top it off.
I use 93 or higher octane alot. And I'm amoderate driver...not racing or braking erractically...also I have an Automatic car...
23-26 in town, and between 27 and 37 on the highway, depending on how fast I'm driving, if I'm going rocksteady at 60, I get about 35 or 37 in 5th gear, any faster and my mileage goes down, it's not a huge difference from the 6 cyl BMW's, if anyone wants to buy a 318 for the gas mileage, it's not incredibly great, just get a 6 cyl and get slightly lower gas mileage. All this is true if you drive fairly easy and not flooring it all the time.

I was considering this as well lately..I get good gas, but it was my first car and I totally OVER estimated the amount of times I'll be refilling my tank...the 4 cyl is not bad at all and really good...
I can't imagine now in the after thought of it that a 6 cyl 325i would be any bad compared to the 318i.
i have a 318ti and get butween 23-27 around town and the highway is a toss up it just depends on how fast i go i drove about 250 miles doing a steady 80-85mph and got about 29mpg still much better then my mustang 16.5 town 21 highway
28.2 MPG combined city/highway. All stock except for a hi-flow muffler. 87K miles. I never get under 26 MPG with my commute of 12 miles, 8 of which is freeway.
If you have a manual you'll definitely get more mpgs. Don't you have an mpg thing? Just look at that to get an idea. If you have an OBC, let her do it for you.
In my experience I've averaged maybe 24-25mpg combined city/highway. And that's driving spirited.
