318i on 316i

hello,i am from uk and recently my head gasket blown,so i bought another engine with low mileage(30.000),the thing is that my bmw is 316i e36 and the engine is 318i e36,they are both m43 engines.
My problem is that i'm not sure that the 318i engine will fit the gearbox from 316i,help me please!!!!

You can start with a cross match here:

If it works out you will also find the ratio is different as when your in low gears it will fly but you will lose a few MPH at the top end, I did this years ago with a capri 1300, stuck a 1600 engine in .........not much could touch me off the lights, but I lost about 12mph at top speed.

I would say you should be alright as Ive just put a 740i gearbox in my 735i all I had to change was the rear propshaft coupling at the rear of the box.
