hey guys, i am looking at doing a part trade of my truck for a 94 bmw 318i sedan, manual, and $5500. I really like the way the car looks but i was wondering if the four cyclenders in them are weak. also it has 167k miles on it, what do i need to be looking for if i do the trade.
Most people here will say the 4 cylindar hasnt got enuff behind it..
I have one, and yes its not the quickest car, but its fun to drive, and theres an amble enough power there..
If you are looking for a drag car, dont be looking for a bmw, even the 328i for its money will get blown away by alot of other cars..
But if you are after a sexy car, with awesome handling, and Class, then that is a nice car.
Also 167,000 miles is alot..
Have it checked out by a local bmw mechanic..
May cost you $400+ but its definetly worth it
It's not worth 6k. Definately do not give him $5500 and your truck. What kinda truck is it?
The 318 will do just fine. You will have enough power to be able to move through traffic Just be smart about what gear you are on and don't be afraind to step on it. My car has 165k miles on it... actually by the end of today it should be almost 166k. As long as it has been taken care of there is no reason it shoudn't make it past 200k... I'm thinking mine might make it to 250k if I start taking it a little easier on her.... However, around this age/time/miles she might start nickeling and dimeing you to near death. But if you don't midn spending a hundered-a couple hundered on her a couple times a year, she should do fine.
The biggest issue I have encountered with the 4 cyl is the lack of performance parts available. My best power range is between 3000-4500 RPM, which is where you can zip in and out of traffic easily. But it really all depends on your ultimate goal of the car.

NO NO NO, you got it all wrong, im trading my 98 dodge dakota 4x4 for his car and he is GIVING ME 5500. so i'm getting the car and 5500. he also said that the only thing it needed was the a/c to be charged with freon
Be careful with the A/C because when i got my car the A/C didn't work and i thought that it only needed to be charged. So i charged it and it still didnt work. I ended up haveing to get a new A/C condensor.

I've got a 94 318i and it's a pretty awesome car i haven't invested much money into her yet and she's running like a champ. I live in the ozarks of missouri and i've got alot of hills to climb daily and it goes up and down really nice. also i've got 180k on mine hope to see over 200 on her and at the rate it 's going it won't be a problem.
