I want to put a m3 engine in my 316 compact m reg. i wont start until i no exactly what i need so everything will go to plan. has any1 dun this or no where i can find the info on exactly what i need to do it?? thanx
revive ur 316... and sell and then go get a regular M3
in the long run, it's less headache and heartache; and probably the more economical way to go.
Conversions these days with DME ECU/ECM brain and other electrics make today's conversion project a big bummer. It wasn't like the 60's and 70's where all u needed was the savvy to drop the biggest engine in the engine wells, and it would work somehow.
yea definitly buy an m3... but if you really want to go through the effort of building a wicked sleeper, then go to bimmerworld.com They can sell you euro spec m3 engines (much better) and seem to have a lot of technical info to go along with it
i dont want an m3 that the point i want a rapid compact something different from every1 else. i just need to know wat exactly i need part from the engine and ecu. so any help then message me and i DONT WANT AN M3! thanx
I have a converted 318i/m3 that just had a new m3 engine put in with 60,000 miles and a 2 year warranty. I will consider selling it if you are interested.

alpine, let's add electronic savvy... 85% of the electrics/electronics will have to be converted to M3 grade as well....
$ wise. it's just not a feasible thing. buying every M3 part for every part that u need in conversion tantamounts to buying a whole M3 and ++ no matter how you look at it....

yes i hav the mechanical ability and the money. i need sum1 that no's exactly what is needed i dont wnna get half way through and realise im missing summin that mite take a while to get. n sorry i dont want to buy one i want to do it to mine thanx.
I think the bast advice of all would be spend the same amount of money on a real M3, and if you cannot afford one, you cannot afford the conversion, either, so save your money for a real M3 and suck down your pride in the meantime.
It is not possible to save the money and just convert a low model - an M3 is an M3 for a reason, and its price is set accordingly. Keep in mind it is not only a better engine; it is a stiffer and better suspension; thicker frame/body; better transmission to handle the power; I could go on, but just about everything is upgraded. No to mention the interior, such as the M3 Vader seats, and styling, such as the bumpers and trim.

Calm down a bit I guess he cant help his ignorance....
from the list I gathered you'll need the M3 engine, Trans, wireing harness, ecu, Engine mounts assesories(Alternator, powersteering pump ect...) i think you might need the driveshaft I sugest buying a wrecked M3 (prefered a rearend collision) and pulling everyting you need because it will be all right there!
