Newbie here......I know this is a BMW forum but please give a young man advice.....

I have a choice to either get a 1994 3000gt (not vr4) 117,000 red..... it has a new transmission, new timing belt and the owner says it runs like new.....

or 1993 325is coupe 125,000 and he says there is nothing wrong with the car and has all records.....

both of the Bodys look good.....

this might seem crazy but i'm not going to pay full coverage on none of these cars (too much)

both are about the same price, 3000gt is about $400 more.....

i'm 23 and the 3000gt has been my dream car since i was younger but now that i'm older i have to decide which will run better in the long run.....

for the past few years i have been attracted to the 325is 1992 and up.....and i have seen these cars run for more than 200,000 miles where as I have not seen too many 3000gt run that long.....

I know some(family and friends) might ask..... "why are u buying these cars if u can't afford to maintain them" well, i like to spoil myself....

don't look at me funny but I don't plan on racing either of these cars, just to drive around and look nice (I have too many speeding tickets ie why i don't plan on getting full coverage)

thankx everyone

94 3000GT is junk for reliability. My friend had one and every week something else broke. Granted it was a swift car but it caused him nothing but headaches. BMW can be pricey to maintain if you go thru the dealership. If you can DIY that will save you tons of $$$ on repairs. And you say the 325is has service records? Thats golden man, as long as bimmers are maintained they will run for ever. No brainer for the bimmer..

Dude, you dont gotta be old and boring to drive a bimmer, you can make it flashy too. You will definatley turn heads in your bimmer. I've had my car for 3 months now, and I've added a little flash myself. Just look around here in the forums (and picture galleries) to see some SWEET bimmers.

lol....na i didn't mean it like that..... I was talking about a more reliable car in the long run compared to a red sports car...... but yeah i've seen some very nice looking bimmers..... even the regular ones that are not pimped out still look nice to me...... 1992- up never look outdated.....

I used to have a 1993 Ford Probe GT (red) with custom wheels/spoiler. Now I drive a 1996 328is bmw, feel free to glance at my sig.

You don't want to drive a flashy cheap red 3000gt. All of the 3000gt's I've seen look like a cheap imitation combo of several luxury cars.

You're 23? I'm 26, I wish I was driving a bmw when I was 23.

I get compliments left and right every time I go out.

get the bimmer baby. I'm 23 as well. those 3000gts are ok, but BMW is on a different level. It's pure prestige, luxury, and BMWs just plain move man(shit is fast man). And the looks of a bimmer are piccaso quality.

Former Nissan 240sx owner...

Now BMW owner...

and not missing the 240 too much

You're getting a good price on that 325is. Go ahead and get it. My other car is a Mitsubishi, so I am not completely biased in favor of BMW.

Parts are easier to come by for e36 bimmers and are generally cheap when you order online. I own and love my bimmer and wouldn't trade it for anything else (well maybe another Bimmer or a porsche). Howeverm if the GT is your dream car, don't pass up the opportunity to live out a dream man :P

lol.... I'm just scared my dream might turn into a nightmare........ heres some quotes i found on a 3000gt forum.....

"man i am having the same fudgin problem with my car, i get something then something breaks, i fix whats broken then something else happens. I love my car but my car is the biggest pain in the ass in my life!!!! I am really looking into selling my car and getting a brand new car so i dont have to deal with the headacke, i got enough crap to worry about and i want my car to be last thing to worry about. But dont get me wrong i dont have any problems like you have my stuff is minor but u r stuff is 100 times worst than mine!!! and i really feel bad when ever u post something like this because i can really feel the pain and it just feels like crap.

the messed up thing is that when i think what i want to go buy, nothing is as good as my vr4 and it cant beat it but when i think about all the headackes and over pices insurance and all the high cost on labor and nobody has used parts or any new parts beside that damn dealer that would charge 20X more just because they are the dealer and they know we dont have any other choice."

there's so much more stories like this........

so is there anymore room in the BMW family for one more person.........

again thankx to everyone that has responded so far.......u all have been very helpfull

I'll welcome you with open arms! Make sure to get the car inspected and have the codes pulled if any before purchasing though :P

Don't forget for insurance purposes the 325i is also a sports car. I have a 94 I bought 2 years ago and I also was looking at 3000GT's. I'd say hands down go for the BMW. You will not be dissapointed, everywhere you go you will be complimented on your car. There is definetely a higher prestige when you own a BMW. I just turned 23 two weeks ago and let me be the first to tell you the car is a magnet. Mine is a convertable and I go park it anywhere there is sun and girls and within minutes they are asking for a ride!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me you will absolutely love the BMW.

Man, if this car was the VR4, I'd be jumping all over your ass.

But since it isn't, the 3000GT isn't AWD. It's FWD.

That being said, FWD is pretty shitty.

Get the 325.
