OK guys went to the shop today to get a few things looked at and now I need some help figuring this stuff out. Stumped my mechanic ona couple things, but he's looking for info too.
1. When I take my car to fill it up (gas station) I set the pump to contiue to fill until it is full. After roughly 1/5 of a gallon it pops back out. So I hold the pump on full and it pops out like it is full again. If I squeeze only a little I can usually get a couple gallons in if I am lucky. So we looked on ALL Data and iATN and the best we can come up with is something called the Evaporator Fuel Shut off Switch(might be valve), or something like that, I didn't write it down. What we could gather from the parts description is this is the thing that equalizes the pressure to allow more gas to come in and tell the gas pump when to stop pumping. However, the parts description was not that clear. Any one familiar with this part or problem?
2. I am getting some rubbing on the front passenger side tire when I turn to the left, around a full turn of the wheel. The rubbing is caused by the corner that is in the wheel well. It is put there for the Euro cars because the battery is upfront for them. Unfortunately that corner is directly underneath the reinforcement for the strut tower, for americans look infront of the batter terminal under your hood. The rubbing is caused because the previous owner put 205 sized tires instead of 195, so I did notice the problem until I lowered my car (sorry I don't have pics, I took my camera out of my car to load the pics of my broken mirror). So can I knock that corner out? Or will it break that reinforcement for the strut tower? Instead should i buy spacers for the front coil springs and give meself and extra 1/4 inch or so to stop the rubbing?
3. Anybody know where besides BMW to get a blower motor? On mine if I turn the knob to 3 or 4 after about 45 seconds a humming starts. My mechanic says it is the bearings in the motor. The BMW price is $350. He gives me a break on labor but still $350 just for the part is kinda steep, his adivce is unless the humming is too annoying just drive it, he said it could last another 50k miles. So if there are n other alternatives I will by a BMW blower once it starts to warm up (I can always keep an extra jacket and driving gloves in the car for the winter).
Thanks for your help, can't wait for my baby to have a clean bill of health again.
the gas thing is becuase you are putting it in to far. my new bmw does it my old one does it, and so does my girlfriends. just put the nossle in there far enough so it stays dont put it in all the way, or else itll read that the tank is full... ill look for your other questions too

that happened with mine, I think david's right, the pipe leading to the tank angles sharpley down about a foot in, splashback triggers the sensor in the pump/shuts it off
Pull the nozzle out a little. This phenomenon is not exclusive to BMWs. Most cars will do the same thing if you put the nozzle in too far. Hope you get that blower on eBay. Wish I could help with the corner question -- I'll try to find out.

Is it a hard left or just a regular left turn? When you lower your car rubbing when making hard or u-turns is inevitable, in almost all cases it occurs.
I'm not sure why you couldn't knock out that corner besides the fact that the battery is there. The strut tower is mounted to the strut mounts which connect to the to the "bumps" if you will. If you are worried about reinforcement i would get the reinforcement plates or a strut bar. I'm not positive if knocking the corner out would affect your suspension.

yeah i agree i think david is right also! everyone should think david is right
For the rubbing.. have you tried to see if you can either remove the plastic gaurd.. and push it back a little.. or if you are really adventurous... just see if you can relocate the battery... put her in the trunk like the rest of us USers'.... as for the pumping problem... just move her out a little.. thats all..

I am state side so my batter is in the back, so the corner has no use for being there. However, if you will pop your hood and look at your passenger side strut tower as seen in picture below. As best that I can tell the corner is right underneath where I have drawn a circle in yellow. What we are afraid of is if we beat that corner in it will crack that reinforcement. Then, even with an aftermarket strut tower mount or reinforcer, the strut tower will now longer have support on the back and may cause a crack around the strut tower. Has any body beat in this corner before? Or should I just get spacers or new tires, I'd rather not get new tires, these are less than a year old and are pretty good.
And thanks for the help on the fueling problem, I'll give it a try here soon, down to about a 1/3 of a tank.
