1998 328i Mystery Button?

My Dad recently bought a '98 328i that has two push-buttons by the headlight switch. One appears to activate the driving/fog lights and has a fog-light symbol pointing left. Just below that there is a similar button with a slightly different light symbol pointing right. It doesn't seem to do anything. Any ideas on what this second button is and what it does? Thanks..

That is for your "rear fog lights." A picture would help, but im sure that if the "mystery button" look slike your fog light button but reversed then that is your answer.

If you have the owner's manual you should be able t find it in the "getting started" section in the first few pages where they point out most of the driver's buttons.

I've attached a photo of the buttons... I'll have to look a the rear view photo of his car...I don't remember seeing any lights back there??

It's an extra bulb inside your left tail light. US spec Bimmers are not usually equipped with it.

If it is a US spec BMW... then someone probably put it in there... I know there are a few group buys for such things... as enthusiests like to have euro parts in their cars....

You can always pop the panel out and see if it actually has wires to it... if it does... that might go to something else... I'd try to contact the previous owner... maybe they might know.

don't mean to jack the thread but does anyone have pics of the euro taillights ? i've never seen them and i'm curious. thanks

on subject... i just installed a garage door opener in that same spot. although my button looks different, it's in the same place. anyway, these guys are probably right since it's a euro car, but the garage door opener is a diy that a few people have done so just a thought.

The euro taillights look just the same. If just happens that the left tail light assembly has a slot for one more bulb, which is used for the rear fogs. I imagine the reflectors are pointed down -- I really don't know.
