| 1998 328i Convertible Top....Still not working!
Just bought the car with the problem. All fuses are good, even the one in the trunk. After doing some troubleshooting, I found the control module missing .
I called the guy we bought it from and he said when the new top was being put on at one shop, they could not get the top to work and did not do mechanical work, so he took it to a shop that works on BMW's. I guess there was a money issue and he decided to sell it instead. The shop that pulled it gave it to me without any reason as to why they took it out, so I was hoping a re-sync was going to do the trick. Not so lucky.
Nothing happens when I operate the switch. The red light in the switch now flashes when the top is unlocked from the windshield, but that is all. When the top is in the full down position the cover does not pull down when trying to do the re-sync proceedure. It seems to be kinda secure, but I don't want to drive it in that position in case it lets go!
Is there a test for the control module that the DIY'er can perform? Am I on the right track thinking the module is toast? Any lines on good parts?
