This will be my first Beemer. I'm thinking about purchasing a 328is. I was wondering if anyone had any input to help me with my decision. Has anyone had a major problems with thier 97 328is? If you have a 97 328is tell me about it?
i have a 97 328is..the only problem its given me is the brake light circuit failure message. so i went to the dealer and bought the replacement part and installed it. no more problems after that.
I have a 328 which i bought 4 yrs ago. Basically I have not had much problems except for the normal age related issues. For the first 2-3 yrs, it was great, real low maintenance. Now stuff are starting to take its toll, so in this yr alone, have changed the radiator, TDC sensor, camshaft sensor, brake pads, ball and control joints, absorbers, power steering hose and tank, rubber strips for the windscreens. Also later on have to look at replacing the rubber strips on the door handles and prob the rubber seals on the doors, cos the wind noise is getting louder. Other than that the only thing to look out for is the gear box (cos of age again) and the electricals - they will be wearing down. Engine wise, it would be hard to break it. Also there are now some traces of leak fr the oil sump, not too serious yet but will have to get it replaced at the next service interval, which should be soon.
Other than that, its a great and fun car to drive.
I have a 1997 328is Coupe. Have owned it for 2 years, now covered 140,000 miles without any serious problems. These are fantastic cars. Quick, reliable and a pleasure to drive.
I have a '98 328is, 106,000 miles plus. No problems at all. Quick, agile, fun to drive, smells good too.

Got a '97 328is here, had it about 6 months, just flipped 40,000 miles, and loving it so far. Think I'm up for brake work and a couple of bushings, but any car that age will start needing stuff like that.
Highly recommended!

sorry. couldn't resist. I often wonder whether anyone really replaces the air filter at inspections... wonder if there's an easy way to check.
