Ok, i had the same problem in March of 2005 and the shop replaced the DS seat belt tensioner.

The AB light came on yesterday and seems to stay. I've searched the forum and only 2 posts, 1 was mine from 2005.

Any ideas how to trouble shoot this? How do you reset the light to see if it was just a one time hit? I've searched BAVAUTO for a reset tool and unless its in the BMW dia tool, I cannot find one specifically for the AB.

Who can tell me how this system works and how to trouble check?

Bav auto does have a SRS reset tool. Part # : SR SRS #129.95

It is listed under reset tools and code readers.

If there's a part broken, my bet is it's the sensor processing module under the front passenger seat. It's darn cheap. Replace it yourself, reset the light, and you're gtg.

I'll get on the phone Monday and order the reset tool to figure out whats broke and then repair.
