1996 328i Power Window and Power Locks Problem

I am having a problem with my power windows and lock on my 1996 convertible 328i.

I have checked all the fuses and relays and they check okay.

Does anyone have any ideas where to look next.

I would frst look at the Central Body Electronics Module and your Central Locking Relay... both found behind your glovebox

That module just happens to control the windows and central locking system ;-)

*also check FUSE 35 on your power distribution box. must have juice running through that fuse at all times, ignition OFF or ON

Hi, if you say all your fuses & relays check out ok, looking in my Bentley it mentions something about a Central Body Electronics (ZKE IV) System when you are having both a power window & power lock problem. The control module for this system is mounted in front of the glove compartment.......

Yup, also known as the "comfort relay." Everything seems to point to that. Goes out on E36s every so often

for 92 bimmer and earlier, central lock module is located behind the driver's side kick panel. right below the speaker. There's a plastic piece that you'll need to pull out to expose it.

yup... if u drove through water, chances are that is the problem.

replacements abound on eBay for $25- to 40.-

It was the relay on rightside if your facing glovebox not the two on leftside
Just in case anyone else has this problem

I still have problem with power window and lock and trunk. However, this time it went out with the top down so the windows were completely down.

I thought I fixed the problem by replacing relay but problem returned after a few weeks. Does anyone have any more ideas?

I have a grey metal box behind the glove compartment that says control on it could that be the problem. Does anyone know what the grey box is for or have any more ideas.

one of the components that uses that relay must have a short.

Think back and try to remember... what was the LAST item you touched before the relay went out(again). Chances are, that is where the problem is
