the 4speed auto is a GM FRANCE tranny. I don't know where the 5speed is made.

I believe the 5 spd is a getrag.

i dont know if they are getrag but one thing is that the ecu has the same number as the stock ecu ends in 413

Is the 413 the engine ECU? Or transmision ECU? There is a transmission controller that has to talk to the engine ECU. I doubt if the 4 speed controller is the same as the 5 speed controller.

413 is the engine ecu. someone told me that i might need the m3 engine for the swap andthe transmission controller .it might be one of those projects.
by the way can a 318i tranny fit the 325i tranny. found one for 450

Since their first appearance in 95.

I think it was 96-99 that they were had an auto option... but they also had a "luxury" variant as well. WTF is up with that.

There are two 4-speed trannys. A 270 and a 310. I don't know if one came with the 318 or not. The parts CD lumps them together, so they might interchange. The internal gear ratios are different, but it might work. This is just a guess.

I have it. Basically, I think it means wood trim, stereo, and seats.

Anyway, the m3 is a 310, the others a 270, and the 325 a 310. The m3 auto is 5 speed; the other autboxes are 4.

but the new e46 m3's only come manual? well at least on the bmw website they dont show that it comes in auto!
