1995 E36 Cd Changer - BMW Forum

Hello everyone,

I have a 1995 318i with an original trunk mounted cd changer. The magazine will eject and load, but it will not play CDs. The radio dash displays "check disk" The magazine is also missing one disk which I assume is still stuck in the chagner. ]

Any tips?

I appreciate any help

I had issues with my 93 BMW changer/head unit as well. The cost to make it work was not reasonable. I just bought a new head unit and scrapped the changer. An MP3 deck will play as many songs as a 6 Disk Changer will.

I don't know if this is so obvious that you've already tried it but when I got mine from an auction I had the same problem. I bought a cheap cd player cleaner from Best Buy, ran it through a few times and it started working. It's good thing to try before you have to replace the whole thing. Good luck!

Just replace the old CD changer, those things dont last forever, use the opportunity to get an mp3 deck (as mentioned by motown) or some such high tech shit.

yah i had a problem with my after-market head unit and this worked as well. it took a few tries but worked after that. it is worth a shot in your case i'd say

Well, you can try a cd laser lense cleaning CD and see if that helps, but I dunno if that will work with the changer since the cleaning CD literally has a brush glued to the underside of the disc (data side) and it might not fit in the changer cartrage.

Looks like it's time for a replacement \ upgrade.
