1995 325i replacement keys

I have only one master key, and the remote keyless entry/alarm no longer functions. I got a replacement key from the dealer using the vin #, but found that it will not start the car. It will unlock doors, light up the instrument panel in position 1, but will only start the car if I first use the master key.

How do you (if possible) program the replacement to start the vehicle?

Any advice/information would be much appreciated...

ive heard people had that problem before. see bmw keys have a little magnetic chip inside of them and ecu is programmed to it. so there is no way you can start it with any other key. you should go to the dealer and see if they can make you one plus they would know waay more then i am lol its just what i heard.

you might have gotten a valet key or something weird. i would take it back to the dealer and have them look at it.

That is really strange. Especially for a 1995 model. When I bought a key from the dealership for my E36, it worked without me having to do anything special. I would go and complain to the dealer and ask that they fix this for you.

Your key just needs to be reprogramed. The dealer will do it for you. Since your car is out of warranty they will charge you but I not expensive. They insert your key inside some box and it reprograms the key.
