1995 318is Driver side window problem

Hello,

I have a problem with my driver side window on 1995 318is and I can't figure out what is causing it. When the window was working properly it would drop down about 0.5 cm when I would open the door and than it would go back up to its original position once the door was closed. Now the window does not drop down when the doors are opened, I thought it might be a striker plate but I have replaced it and the problem is still there. I was thinking maybe this could be a problem with window motor but I am not sure since the window can be opened/closed without a problem.

The problem is mot likely your door striker. Most 2dr E36 owners have this issue or will at some time or another.

Open your door and look at where the door latches onto. There will be a little button on the inside of the latch which will probably appear a bit worn.

Some try to adjust the striker itself which is held on by torx nuts and solve the problem.

I recommend just buying new ones:

Thank you for the answer. I have actually changed the striker plate and it did not fix the problem and I am not sure what else could be causing this problem. On the passenger side everything works fine.

Hi, i had the same problem with my '92 e36. my problem was behind the door pannel. i had to take off the pannel where i saw the window motor controls. sure enough there was a wire with a quick disconnect that was, well disconnected. i simply plugged it back in to it's proper recepticle and the window worked like new.
