A friend of mine has been offered a 1994 318is. He has some concerns about it, please bear with all the questions. It has 139k, it was purchased in 2001 for $3200, was this a good deal? The body is in great condition with only one dent on the passenger side side skirt. What would be a good price for this vehicle? I have checked NADA and in poor condition it said $4500. I checked the FAQ section for maintenance procedures so I think we are good there. He is not sure about durability and cost to keep it maintained. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Ben

take it to a very good BMW mechanic, pay him to
"FIND SOME THINGS WRONG W/IT" (use those words)

if there is nothing wrong, go for it. then enjoy.

the car is very dependable if it is maintained properly, maybe between $50-$100 a month.
it will go forever, provided there are no major problems. what has been replaced, broken, crashed, ect. there r many questions u need to ask, so take someone who KNOWS cars with you.

good luck
Mark

i think there is a buying list of questions around here, i cant find it.
anyone know where it is?
thanks

Mark,

Thanks for the reply, what about the price it was bought for in 2001, ($3200). And what would it be worth? My friend and I are mechanically inclined so that will not be a problem. Is the $50-100 a month for gas or what? Also are parts expensive for these? Please excuse my newness in the bmw world.

3200 is a great price. As for parts, they are about the same as other car makers if you know where to shop.

the $50-100 was about basic upkeep. oil/ filter/air brakes over time, coolant, a/c, ect. ect. it probably equals out @ there. its really not bad at all.

like el pres. said, parts r not to expensive. i cant say @ gas though, it depends how much/fast u drive. i drive ALOT, so my gas bill every month is around $500-600. but im saving alot compared to other cars. plus i get to still drive fast, and feel great about my car.
