1994 318is Door Ghost

when i hit the brake the whole car acts like the door is open; i.e. the automatic window seal goes up and down, the interior light fades on slowly. when i accelerate it stops. also when i try to set the alarm the doors don't lock. i looked for a switch in door jam but there's nothing there. obviuosly the car thinks the driver door is ajar. how do i fix this... aside from slamming the door every time?

adjust the door latches... I had the same problem last year... I actually replaced the door latches, but I guess I didn't really need to... I think it's a torx bolt if I remember correctly... loosen it up and adjust the best you can w/o screwing up the alignment of the door.... look at the switch/sensor on the inside of the latch itself (if you push it in/out the window jumps up/down); if that looks quite worn out.. you may consider replacing the latches...
