1994 318i

I got a transmission check light come on in the freeway, and th car started going really slow and wouldnt pull anymore, like a freaking bicycle..so i went home and i checked the voltaage of the battery at in was at 12.8 volts, and disconnected the battery, reconnected it and than i test drove it, it was just fine, but i am wondering if u guys know what does that mean when that light came on? help me out before its too late, thanks alot

It went in to limp mode ( get me home ) , the battery should be pushing around 14.5V with engine running, If it doesnt push enough volts out the car thinks theres a problem and goes in to "shit lets get home please Im not well" mode.

you know after that i havent had the light come back or anything, works fine, but i was just curious why did that come up at first place, maybe low fluids, low volts i dont know? but so far has been ok
