i am considering investing some money into my 93 318 and i was wondering if it was even possible to drop an m3 engine in there, considering mechanical and electrical compatibility and so forth. if anyone knows, please let me know if this is easily do-able and if it is, what year m3 engine would fit into my 93 318, and what other upgrades i will have to follow thru with. tranny? ecu? suspension? anything else? also, and approximation on how much it would cost, all in all. thanks everyone.

You need to change almost everything under the hood, plus the ecu, wireing harness, tranny and exhaust.
The driveshaft too I think and possible the differential (not sure if the smaller 318 one would hold up for the power).

If I were you, I'd sell the 318 and buy an M3 and take off all the emblems.
Now you've got a sleeper. What you suggested is only practical if you just won the lottery and quit your job.
Supercharge it, for around $3500 you can be pulling alot of power. If you think about it the amount of hp gain you get from the super charger will be more worthwhile than the engine swap.
