1993 325i...Sticky/Tacky Interior Trim

I just got my daughter a used 1993 325i with only 75,000 miles. It has some rocker panel rust that I will get fixed by a body shop, and the usual leather wear, but otherwise it is in beautiful shape!

One thing, however...i was trying to clean the piece of interior trim that hides the seatbelt where it retracts into the door post, and the more I clean it, the stickier it becomes! It's like there's some sort of coating on it that reacts with warm water. You would think a little dish soap and a scrubbing sponge would do the trick, but it's even sticky when I try to dry off the trim with a paper towel (the paper towel wants to stick to it like a fly to flypaper).

Any thoughts as to how to clean it? Thanks!

Thats odd. I have never heard of this before. Have you tried something like Simple Green or other natural degreaser/cleaner? Dont use anything to harsh on it.
