1993 325i questions...

I'm new to bmw as I received a just the other day from a friend and I've gone through the haynes book but still have some questions left over.. For instance whats the Gold mech. that is bolted on to the intake box? I see it has 2 tubes attached to it and it also had antifreeze in it. What does it do? Also Does anyone know where i can get the clips for the intake that clips the intake box to the other pieces of tubing? Thanks, Chris

intake box?... or throttle body?

if on the throttle body, then that "mech" acts as a temperature sender which measures engine temperature to regulate throttle opening on cold starts.
