1992 325I Starting Problem ???? - BMW Forum

Hey guys.....

I have a 1992 325I. that just started running weird on me and now wont run at all. I know a little bit about cars so im trying to diagnose/fix it myself and its driving me NUTS!!!! Heres the deal: when I start it, it will start and then just die, and when it starts for that couple of seconds it's very rough...So i went to the visible thing, the Air Flow Meter...I unplugged the wire and it runs rough and backfires a lot, but enables me to Rev up the idle and somewhat move it around....So thinking that it was the meter. I change it with a used one, actually 2 used ones...and still the same problem, then I bought a Re-Built one....and the same problem, still...Ive done a tune-up and also re-built the cats on it too....I dont know what else to look for....Can anyone help me, I would really appreciate it....i love this car....

Hey,
You may want to check you fuel pressure.
After so many years the pump will slowly die, therefore slowly giving out less fuel pressure until it reaches a point that the engine cannot run.
I would just order a new pump and a new fuel filter, replace them and start from there.

Dont forget youre basics.

Air + Fuel = power.

hm at first i would have thought mass air as well but if you have changed it out and found it not to be that i wonder if you should check the fuel pressure like vic has said and as well checked to see if maybe your DME is running properly, open where it is and see if there is any water or traces of water in there.
