i found an 86 325e............it has been maintained........but has 140k on it.........any idea how many miles this car will go before it dies...........

umm cars dont just hit like 200,000 miles then die, it all depends how well it has been treated and looked after, and how nice you are to it

I just bought one with 235000 miles one month ago, it still runs, I never had a BMW before, so far so good, I spend 400 dolars in maintenence, two shocks absorbers, oxygen sensor, transmission leak, well I did the changes myself....
It seems to me a car that loves highways.... and small enough to go in the city, but
may be not fuel economic in the city .
If you buy it, make sure it doesn't leak, look underneth and check oil in the road
in the front area. Leakings are nasty, and are expensive to repair 50% of the times.

If all you want is a beater to get you through the winter, then go for it. Ask when the timing belt was last changed, and subtract the cost of that from the asking price of the car. The m20 engine will go literally forever, ive heard of m20's with more than 400 thousand miles on them, timing belt changes are a must though.

140k is nothing to worry about if the car was maintaned.

it would be an alright car i was never a fan of the eta engines but that is just me.... what is wrong with your e36?
