17 rims on a 1992 318is?

I'm looking to get new rims and tires for my 1992 318is but I'm not sure exactly what is involved.

Can I just order the rims with tires mounted and slap them on my car? I currently have the stock 15" rims.

Or do I need to have any suspension work done to make sure the front of the car isnt 'lifted' up because of the larger wheels?

I'd like to get these wheels:

Wheel Size: 17x8 inch, 47mm offset, O.E.R. Tire Size: 225/45-17

when you increase the wheel size, you decrease the tire size, so the front wont be "lifted up."

You can bolt them on directly, but you may have some rubbing issues with the tire and may need to roll the fender.

I just bought a '92 325iS from a friend of mine that has those 17" wheels on it. I know there are no rubbing issues, but I'm not sure if he did any modifications to the fender. I'll find out and let you know.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not sure how to take the wing compliment.

This is going to be my "beater" car -- something I can drive back and forth to work when my Mustang is down. Therefore, I don't intend to spend too much money improving it. Most of my mod money will be going into the Stang.

those where my second choice. I got the m5 type in 17s, no rubbing to fender mods required.

I'm more into drag racing and V8 power and sound. It costs a lot cheaper to mod a Mustang and there are whole lot more parts available. Plus I've been driving and racing Mustangs for 9 years now -- it's hard to get it out of your blood.

Don't get me wrong, I really love this BMW -- the beater car comment was kind of a joke. I actually do beat my Mustang... just watch me take a trip down the 1320 and you'll see.
