will gas pedal cel test work on 87 325i cabrio?

Curious if the depressing gas pedal 5 times with key in on position will work on my brothers 87 325i convertible to check what code my check engine light is throwing. thanks.

1. You can try it (ensure your check engine bulb isn't burnt out).
2. Someone with a car close to yours will speak up with an answer.
3. You can open the glove box, remove some screws to take down the plastic panel below the dash, and then remove the four 10mm screws securing your ECU to the bracket and write down the ECU number on the colored sticker. Then compare your part number to this list:

list of all BMW ECU's (long)

My 90 vert has this ECU: 0 261 200 380, and the bimmerboard lookup shows

325i/is/iX

Bosch Motronic M1.3

The stomp test works with this unit (Motronic 1.3), as well as the 1.7 ECU in my 91 318i.
