right now, my mpg gauge and coolant gauge dont work at all, but my speedo and tach fluctuate on and off...sometimes they both work, 1 works and the other doesnt, or neither work at all. anyone know what the problem is? used used

sounds like loose wiring, take out your gauge cluster and see if its grounding out somwhere or if the plugs in the back have fallen out. and while its out replace the batteries on the guage cluster.

check your fuses first, that will save you lots of trouble, and if any of them are burned out, then replace them

the only problem is that the guages wouldn't work at all if the fuses were blown unless it didn't blow properly and current is jumping the gap which i guess is a possibility if you have never replaced your fuses.

unless the batteries are leaking they prolly arent bad, you need an SI board, ive seen plenty of 20 year old cars with original SI batteries they dont go bad that often

i didn't say they went bad its just recomended that you do change them, and a leaking battery isn't the only sign of a crapped out battery, the voltage drops when they crap out too. i just changed mine 2 years ago and they were the originals, but my SI board is crapped out im pretty sure, im thinking about just taking it out caus ethose lights anoy me anyways and i do my own work so i dont want that thing to be on all the time.

you SI board doesnt only control those lights. other things in the instrument cluster use the SI board, so taking it out will make something else not work, im not sure exactly what else it controls but its not just the lights
