where to start

hi evrybody

im new in the bussines, and i need some help with upgradeing my 1987 325e
where to start. The car is stock and stock is slow and the gears feel sloppy Any sugestions ?

new shifter bushings, tune up, and keep in mind a chip on an Eta makes 22hp...not claimed...actual horsepower...

i picked up a dinan chip for fairly cheap, then swapped the entire exhaust system from the iS as its dual, then hacked off the mufflers and installed a pair of magnaflows...then went to a 3.23 LSD from an M coupe and dropped in a K&N panel filter...thats about all the mods i have at this point and i wouldnt consider it slow...
