Ok so last week I went over to the junkyard and i found a few bmws but only 1 e30. Anyway it was a 89 325i with a semi ripped out interior. Anyway I found that it has "straight pipes" Its not a full straight pipe, its just a cat-back straight pipe. In fact, all it is, is the stock cat-back section, with the muffler cut off and new pipes with some nice looking tips welded on. I got it for $30 so I figure i cant lose to bad. Im gonna try it out sunday but what do you guys think? Will it sound like a honda or will it sound like a open header gtr?


Ah well I'm just really curious.

Also btw, does anyone know how to get the rear muffler hanger off? I couldnt figure out how so i just cut the rubber with a hack saw.

I have used dish soap to help loosen things up I also usually unbolt the clamp from the muffler this lets me wiggle it around until I can work the rubber ring off.

yea but i guess you havnt seen a e30 rear hanger, i havent seen one like it on another car. unlike other hangers its not molded rubber or whatever, its a 1 inch thick 2 ply hard rubber with a string like mesh inside it, Basically its a non steel belted tire. And its "stamped" in like a welded on thumbtack....

Yeah, I'm planning on doing the "straight-pipe" thing to my car as described in this thread. I wonder what it will sound like... My friend and my Dad agree that it will sound pretty meaty... I already have a hole in my exhaust...

If the piping is too short its gonna sound like an old vdub....lol...that reminds me, my friend got new headers for his eclipse, when he took out the old one, the sensor was cross-threaded into the hole....so it was no good anymore....so he tried to plug it...hahaha....we go down to airport road to test it out......half way across you hear this enormous exhaust leak, sounded like a blown dune buggy...hhahha
