Hey guys... Want to change gear oil in my 235k 5spd. What size hex do the plugs take? Just want to have the right one before I start. It's pretty big, I don't think I have one that big lying around. Any help would be appreciated!
I know it's a lot bigger than any that I have. I saw one for sale somewhere and now I can't remember where it was . I just figured someone on here has done this before and would know.
Sorry, I though it was a reference to a hex/allen bolt. Allen bits are expensive when you get that large. Sockets are expensive once you get to 1 inch or 22mm for singles.
OK guys. I meant the oil in the 5 spd.! Like the Tranny. I have every socket known to man when it comes to standart type sockets... I meant the hex AKA allen wrench that it takes to get the fill and drain plugs out of the trans. Thanks for the efforts though.... sorry I didn't make it more clear
Did you mean 17mm hex socket or a standard 6 or 12 point? Cuz those ebay links are for the hex sockets.... It's a 17 mm hex then? Just trying to unconfuse myself.
I just checked my tranny fluid...I had to buy a 17 mm hex, allen bit.
I bought one from auto zone....it was a set of 3 (17 mm and then two smaller ones) for about $10. I checked the fluid and then returned the wrench to Autozone......so in the end it didn't cost me anything.
it was a peice that fit on a breaker bar or ratchet.
It was kinda ghetto cause it wouldn't fit between the tranny and frame when it was on a ratchet, so you'd have to put the bit in the drain plug, then get a 17mm wrench and crank it off. it worked but due to the ghetto-ness I returned it.
